The story of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is about a young boy named Brian who is flying in a Cessna bush plane to see his father in Northern Canada.  After the plane crashes, he is forced to live on his own for several days in a remote forested area.  Through the book, we  explore how Brian learns to survive using his own skills and the items available in the Canadian wild.

Gary Paulsen continued this story with Brian’s Return about when he gets home,  Brian’s Winter which explores what may have happened if Brian wasn’t rescued, The Hunt and The River.  If you loved Hatchet, you may want to read more….
